Results...

Today, I had my colonoscopy. While there were no polyps (I'm surprised!), I do have hemorrhoids (not surprised) and diverticulitis (VERY surprised). You can read about diverticulitis HERE. In a nutshell, I need to add more fiber to my diet. I will also take a round of antibiotics, and then add probiotics into my daily routine as well. The doctor believes that the diverticulitis was the cause of all my problems back at the end of 2011 (suspected gallstone incident). I will be researching high fiber foods and will add a fiber supplement. Oh, the joys of getting old(er)!

In better news, I lost 4.4 for a total of 15.8 since starting WW. (I know some of that loss was from the colonoscopy prep, but I'm hoping at least a pound of it was actually from my efforts this past week. I mean, come on, I went to Red Robin and ate without going over my points. While it was my first trip to Red Robin, from what I understand the fries are amazing. And I passed on them.

I need to spend some time tomorrow planning out my meals for the rest of the week. Knowing I couldn't eat yesterday, I didn't plan ahead. For me, planning is ESSENTIAL. I've learned this go around that planning, exercise and determination are key for my success. I missed going to the gym today. I look forward to returning Thursday. I also look forward to the beautiful warm weather we had last week to return so I can get outside and bike again.

Remember, failing to plan is planning to fail.

Odds and ends....

Today, I am going to see The Hunger Games with my friend Kym and some others. I am SO excited as I finished the first book last night! I HAD to finish it before seeing the movie.

This morning, I took my measurements. I know that the data the scale provides is not "the whole picture", so I decided to bite the bullet and do measurements too. I can't wait to see those numbers go down as well!

I went for a 9.2 mile bike ride on Friday at the Akron bike path with my friend Lori. Heading out, it was fine as the wind was at our back. Heading back, with the wind in our face, was torture. By the time we turned around, my rear end was numb, my thighs were burning, and I was tired. But, I loved every minute of it! I can't wait to get out again!

Yesterday, I did a kettlebell workout with Lori at her house. It was HARD. Too many squats for my liking. Today, I had to hold the wall as I sat down to pee as my legs are SO SORE. But, I will keep at it. I can only get better. It was fun to do it with someone. I just need to find some kettlebells now.

I can't believe how I'm changing emotionally and physically since starting this journey of eating better and exercising. I feel better all the time. My attitude has improved ten-fold. My heart rate doesn't climb as high when I exercise. I need to exert myself harder to get it as high as it was a month ago. I'm actually getting in better shape. My body craves activity daily. And it is easier to eat healthier when I exercise because I don't want to "waste" my efforts by filling my body with crap.

Tuesday, I have a colonoscopy at noon. I don't know if I mentioned in an earlier post back in January that I was pooping out my daily vitamin whole. That is still happening, and I haven't taken that vitamin since January 3rd. I switched to a different kind. A pill kind, not a gel cap. But, as of Wednesday, I am still pooping one out every now and again. I had polyps about 15 years ago when I had a flexible sigmoidoscopy done, so the GI Dr. suspects more polyps have grown. Better to check things out than to be sorry later. I'm already a bit crabby because I can't eat all day Monday or Tuesday until after the procedure. So whatever I eat today has to hold me over until Tuesday late afternoon. UGH. I bought a bottle of apple juice and some Gatorade. I can also have jello (not red or purple) and chicken broth.

I think that about sums it up for today! Enjoy your day!

11.4

I'm down 4 pounds this week for a total (since joining Weight Watchers) of 11.4!! I'm going to the gym twice a week, and getting in some activity most other days too (walking, spinning, recumbent bike). I just learned of a 1/2 mile loop in a park down the road from my house! I'm so excited to check it out!

I'm not struggling "as much" with food. I'm staying within my points, even when eating out. (I ate out 4 meals in 4 consecutive days leading up to weigh-in and still lost 4 pounds!) I'm beginning to recognize actual hunger. And I'm learning that I don't have to stuff my face when I'm hungry. I'm including small snacks throughout my day that are satisfying.

I've never felt this determined or in control. I don't use the term motivated, because motivation comes and goes for me. I'm determined, and that won't change. I can't wait to start feeling a difference in how my clothes fit!

Remember - if nothing changes, nothing changes. You can't expect to see change unless you do something!

My LOVE/HATE relationship...

I have a love/hate relationship with food and exercise. I LOVE to eat, and I HATE to exercise.

I struggle every. single. day with my relationship with food. Someone recently compared my quest to lose weight and get healthy with quitting smoking. The only similarity I see is that they are both hard to do and take commitment and determination. The fact is - I NEED food to survive. People don't NEED to smoke to survive. So, I have to mend an unhealthy relationship with food. I can't just "quit" it.

I'm constantly working to mend my relationship with food. I need to eat to live, not live to eat. In the meantime, I'm trying to exercise more. I've been going to the gym twice a week and exercising once at home each week. Over time, my intention is to increase the amount of time I exercise. But from past experiences, I know that too much, too soon is no good for me and that I tend to give up.

One day at a time. That is all I can do.

Busy, busy...

As I mentioned in my last post over two weeks ago, I've decided to make some lifestyle changes and they sure have kept me busy! I'm down 5 pounds following Weight Watchers, and have been exercising a few times a week. (I'm easing into the exercise.) I've also been trying new recipes. (For those of you who know me, I've never really cooked - unless you count heating up pierogi's or making cheese and weenie "wrap-ups" as cooking.) I feel good making these changes in my lifestyle.

Today, I had to have two biopsies on suspicious skin spots. One of them is sutured. :( I will get the results in ten or so days. Keep your fingers crossed it is nothing. I can't change the outcome, therefore, I am not going to stress about it.

The timer just went off - my sausage stuffed zucchini is ready!! Time to eat!

I promise not to be gone so long in between posts from now on.
